Water and Storm Damage Tips

Spring is on the way and we all know the saying, April showers bring May flowers. As nice as the flowers are, we need to stay on top of the spring storms that are headed toward us. SERVPRO of West Somerset County is here to help you with water and storm damage tips, as well as some insight on how we can help you restore any damage.
Storm Damage Cleanup & Restoration
We know that our part of the country can experience storm systems, and we have seen that occur in recent years with Hurricane Sandy, Irene, Ida, and others damaging large portions of the state. Our restoration teams traveled to the coastline to help townships still working to dry and repair their homes for months after Sandy slammed the shoreline.
We have prepared for the likelihood of flooding in severe storm events and have acquired the leading tools and equipment to address standing water and saturation throughout an entire property. With hundreds of air movers and dehumidifiers, we can address thousands of square feet of saturated material to work to remove or preserve it as installed.
We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster
Floods and storms don’t wait for normal business hours, and neither do we. You can depend on an immediate response from our highly trained technicians, who are available 24 hours, seven days a week.
We’re Highly Trained Storm Damage Specialists
As leaders in the storm and water damage industry, we have advanced training and expertise, not to mention a tremendous amount of hands-on experience. We use this training and experience to quickly dry your home and restore it back to pre-storm condition.
We Have the Resources to Handle Storms & Disasters

Water & Storm Damage Tips
What can you do until help arrives? After any water damage situation, your primary focus should be safety first:
- Is it safe to stay in the house?
- Electrical and “slip and fall” hazards are some of the more prevalent concerns.
- Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.
- Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful.
What to do after flooding?
- Remove excess water by mopping and blotting.
- Wipe excess water from wood furniture after removal of lamps and tabletop items.
- Remove and prop wet upholstery and cushions.
- Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.
- Turn air conditioning on for maximum drying in the summer.
- Remove colored rugs from wet carpeting.
- Remove art objects to a safe, dry place.
- Gather loose items from floors.
What NOT to do after flooding?
- Don’t leave wet fabrics in place. Hang furs and leather goods.
- Don’t leave books, magazines, or other colored items on wet carpet or floors.
- Don’t use your household vacuum to remove water.
- Don’t use television or other household appliances.
- Don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging.
